The Legend
Nicknamed the "Sleeping Giant of Armenia," Mount Ara tells the legend of Ara the Beautiful. According to Movses Khorenatsi, the Assyrian queen Shamiram sent emissaries to Armenia to declare her love. Ara rejected her advances, faithful to his principles, which provoked Shamiram's fury.
She then led her troops against Armenia. During the battle on the mountain's slopes, Ara received a mortal wound. Devastated, Shamiram had his body carried to the summit of Mount Ara and attempted to bring him back to life through ancient rites. Ten days later, she understood that the king would not awaken and left Armenia, convinced that his soul had joined Babylon.
